North American Cherry Description

Prunus Serotina

NA Cherry: aka American Cherry, Black Cherry, Rum Cherry, Wild Cherry.

Colour: Heartwood is light red to dark reddish brown colour; sapwood is light brown to pale with some pinkish tone.

Grain: Fine, uniformly textured grain, with frequent wavy appearance. Some gum and pitch pocket; smooth satin like texture to wood surface.

Janka Hardness: 950 lbs of dent resistance….26% softer than Red Oak.

Finishing: Sands and finishes well.

Notes: Light sensitive species that darkens upon exposure to UV light.
