Douglas Fir Description
Pseudotsuga menziesii

Douglas Fir: aka Coastal Douglas Fir, Oregon Pine, Puget Sound Pine, BC Pine.

Colour: Heartwood is yellow/tan to light brown. Sapwood ranges from tan to white.

Grain: Plain sawn fir displays arched, plumed grain. Vertical or VG Fir is typically straight grained with occasional wavy or spiral texture. Old Growth VG Douglas Fir displays tell tale pin striped, tight, straight grain.

Janka Hardness: 660 lbs of dent resistance…49 % softer than Red Oak.

Finishing: Sands and finishes well. Can be blotchy and uneven when stained.

Notes: Douglas Fir ages to a salmon/orange color from exposure to UV light.
